Yearning for crisp clean farm air? Located just 35 kilometres from Laikipia County’s Nanyuki town, Timau is famous for the rich farmland where the finest of export-quality roses, various grains and greenhouse horticulture are grown. On a fine day, the brilliance of Timau is best savoured at dawn, and other plains game can be seen as well as stunning views north of the Lolldaiga Hills and sublime views south of Mt Kenya. On clear days, the full Aberdare mountain range and the Laikipia plains are visible.

Day 1: Arrival
Meeting point at 6:00 am in Westlands for a prompt departure at 6:30 am. Drive for approximately 3.5 hrs to arrive in Naro Moru River Lodge, where we shall enjoy a leisurely afternoon with options for a nature hike, swimming and sauna or try out the Naro Moru MTB Trail. We shall then have our dinner served in the restaurant and retire to our rooms for the night.

Day 2: Adventure Begins
Wake up to an early breakfast after which we shall board the bus to be transferred to the start point of the ride. We shall then ride for 2 hrs to the Ngare Ndare Forest to enjoy it’s beautiful, spring-fed blue pools and canopy walks above the trees as well as walks through the lush forest. After a picnic lunch and optional swim in the pools we shall then head back to Naro Moru River Lodge for a hearty meal evening meal.

Day 3: Continuation
Breakfast will be served early after which we shall be transferred to the start point of our ride (Borana Gate) we shall ride for 3-4 hrs to enter the Mukgodo Forest to end up at the Mukgodo Forest view point which has jaw-dropping viewing spots overlooking northern Kenya and its mountains. Here we shall have a picnic and sundowner and finally head back to Naro Moru River Lodge.

Day 4: Departure
We shall have a morning ride around the environs of Naro Moru River Lodge and return in time for lunch as we wind down and drive back through the scenic Kikuyu highlands to Nairobi. Approximate arrival in Westlands at approximately 6.00 pm.

Tour Location

The major attractions in Laikipia are the wildlife, the equator, stunning scenic views of the Laikipia rangelands, interaction with the different tribes and cultures of the area and a variety of sporting activities. Laikipia County is endowed with wildlife, which is widely distributed in the semi-arid lands extending from the Aberdares to Samburu, Meru and Mt. Kenya Wildlife corridors and ecosystems. It has the greatest population of wildlife outside of the gazetted protected areas in the country. Most of the wildlife is found in the large scale ranches, which occupy over 50% of the total area of the county. The rest is found in the unsettled smallholding, group ranches owned by the pastoral Laikipia Maasai and in the gazetted forests of Mukogodo, Rumuruti and Marmanet. The major wildlife species are the Lion, Giraffe, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and the Rhinocerous. Others are the African Wild Dog, Grevy Zebras and gazelles among others.
