Karura Forest is an urban upland forest located on the outskirts of Nairobi, about 13km from the CBD. It sits in an area of about 1000 ha. The forest has an eco-friendly and serene environment where visitors enjoy trekking, jogging, or bike riding away from the hustle of the vibrant capital city. Karura Forest has a bicycle trail of about 5km for bike riding. Additionally, there are attractive sites that require one to take a walk or ride to discover. They include; a 15-meter waterfall, caves that were initially used by the mau mau fighters as their hideouts, patches of bamboo, indigenous trees, and an old chimney incinerator used to burn decommissioned currency in the mid-’90s.
