Explore Diani – Information Package

Explore is a Travel Adventure Race born from the love of the outdoors. We try and keep an open mind at Explore, anything can happen when you yearn to “explore the unknown”.  In this regard the races will be open to explorers who want to see Africa in a different light and don’t exactly mind not knowing where they will end up in this epic adventure.


Race format

Participants generally have to engage in different multi-sport activities, collect different items around the course, and complete various challenges to achieve the overall objectives.

How to Play

  • Players are generally organized in teams of four.
  • Each team may be required to use a vehicle, bicycles, motorcycles, travel on foot, horse back, camel, donkey carts, canoes, rafts, boats, ziplines, aircrafts etc — depending on the scope of the race itself.
  • Players may be required to use maps or GPS devices to navigate the race course.
  • Players may also be required to use a digital device or a camera to record certain of the tasks completed or for identification of items required to complete certain tasks.
  • Players earn “points” for each task completed within a certain timeframe. Prizes are awarded to the team with the highest score, shortest route taken, most creative team etc.

EXPLORE events are team based and require that participants work together as a team to conquer and complete the required tasks.  These tasks may feature some or all of the following:- Outdoor survival tasks, fitness challenges, tasks specific to the location, adventure activities and conservation based activities.

Fun Tasks- fill ins

As these are also fun events; there will be a selection of Fun activities that participants will engage in to fill in time between tasks. These may for example feature;

A)    Interaction with strangers
B)    Interaction with other teams
C)    Individual challenges that push you beyond your comfort zone
D)    Mental challenges

EXPLORE@Diani – 21st October, 2017


Apart from your usual personal effects for travel, you will be required to have suitable swimwear or clothing with which you can take part in the water based events.
Beach shoes or sneakers which you do not mind getting wet and your own towel are also advisable.
As Diani is a generally a sunny location, caps, sun-cream and any other UV protective clothing or equipment is recommended.
For the Swahili Dinner; there will be a prize for the best dressed “Swahili” attire so you can bring along your Kikois, Kanzu’s and Khangas for a truly authentic evening.
Safety equipment will be provided to you by the organisers of the event


Find a group of friends, register to enter and plan your trip!
This is a fun event, however it is recommended that you have a basic level of fitness and be able to swim or at least be comfortable in water.
Come with an open mind and be prepared, meet new people, enjoy new experiences and  discover some of what Diani has to offer.


The Beachcombers Brasserie at Safari Beach Hotel which will be open throughout the event serving an a la carte menu. A take-away lunch bag will be available On Saturday 21st at a cost of 500/- for participants of the event. These must be ordered and paid for by Friday 20th October. In keeping with the coastal experience a Swahili Beach BBQ and Beach Bonfire will be available on Saturday 21st in the evening at a cost of 750/- per person. Activities to do while in Diani:

  • Skydive with Skydive Diani; a once in lifetime experience: Kshs 36,500/- per person
  • Fly-boarding with Raydon Watersports; special offer for registered participants of EXPLORE@Diani
    Kshs 8,000/- for 30 minutes.
